Dad's Birthday

Here is the Birthday Boy blowing out the candles on his cake. I bought numbered candles so he only had to blow out two candles and not 79. When I asked him if he could blow these out, he said he could do it from across the room. We didn't challenge him to try it for real, but he sure blew these 2 candles out in one quick puff. I don't know why his face came out splotchy in this picture, but it really wasn't.

We had an extra-large cake for the amount of people that were there, but when I saw this cake, I had to have it. It's hard to tell in the picture but it has frosting on top that looks like a fire and then there are smore's on the corners and marshmellows on sticks (pretzels) that are sprinked with cinnamon so they look cooked. The minute I saw it, I couldn't help but think of all the camping we did as kids and I just had to have this cake.

When I told dad that Sarah had sent him a birthday wish via Facebook, he said that if she comes to visit within the next 6 months she can have some cake. Okay, so there was a LOT of cake, but I don't think it will still be around for THAT long.

Jef called while we were there so we also got to visit with him.

Before we left, Dad informed us that next year he turns 80 and then he will be old and crotchety, though I can't imagine anyone as funny as he is becoming crotchety.

I can't imagine him being crotchety either. We went over on Saturday and had a nice visit with him. I always love his sense of humor and it's even better because his face is usually so deadpan.

That is a darling cake, I love the soon to be crotchety old man blowing out the candles! It sounds like it was a lovely time, wish we were there to give the birthday guy a big hug and a smooch!

We did have a nice visit with him on Sat. We brought milkshakes and enjoyed a story about the tiger that is out in the yard.

He spent his youth being crochety, so I think that has already passed. LOL

I love the cake! Too bad Kane and I weren't there to eat some... yummy! Unfortunately I wasn't feeling too great that day.

Love you so much Dad.. Wish it hadn't have taken this to bring us much closer together. We talked more over the last few years then we did our whole lifetime. But we have shared so much in these few years. I love you so much then you will ever know. Happy Birthday.. Damn I wish I could have been there. So hard to be away.

I was hoping that more family would be there to talk to me.. How I miss you all so much. I talked to dad for about 15 minutes before he got tired and handed off the phone.. better then our last visit that I only talked to him for 2 minutes before he went onto other tangents..

Oh man! I am sorry I won't get any of that cake! It does look terrific! I am glad he had a nice day and everyone enjoyed being with him. Maybe I will get to spend some family time over the holidays! Looking forward to it!
